Site context

The proposed development at 344-350 Old Brompton Road sits on the site of the former Tournament Pub and the neighbouring buildings opposite West Brompton Station.

Located on the corner of Eardley Crescent and Old Brompton Road, adjacent to the former Earls Court Exhibition Centre and opposite the Grade I listed Brompton Cemetery, 344-350 Old Brompton Road was not wholly part of the previous masterplan.

The Earls Court Development Company purchased the Tournament Pub site in March 2020 to form a positive addition to the Earls Court project.

We believe that the proposed development will act as a gateway into the wider Earls Court development, whilst plans for the wider masterplan are developed.

Site history

The site at 344-350 Old Brompton Road has had a long and complex history, but we are now seeking to unlock the site.

The Tournament Pub site at 344-346 Old Brompton Road did not form part of the previous masterplan and was purchased by The Earls Court Development Company in March 2020.

First licensed in the 1870’s and severely damaged during World War Two, the Tournament Pub as it became known in the 1960’s, closed its doors in 2011. A planning application under the previous owners to demolish the existing building and develop seven flats was approved in 2012. This permission however expired in 2015 without being implemented.

By 2016 the poor condition of the building had become a source of concern for the local community and a notice was served on the former owners by the Kensington and Chelsea Council ordering the demolition of the pub, which was completed in July 2016.

While the 348-350 Old Brompton Road site did form part of the previous masterplan, it has a history of its own. Under the former owners, a new planning application was consented in 2015 to develop 16 residential apartments. This consent was implemented through the recent demolition of existing properties.
